The fastest way for a small service business in Ireland or the UK to get more leads in 2026 is to fix the basics in this order: a complete Google Business Profile, a website that answers buyer questions and captures enquiries, fast follow-up on every lead, and only then paid ads to scale what already converts.
Most businesses do it backwards. They spend on ads first, send traffic to a weak website, reply to enquiries the next day, and conclude that marketing does not work.
Here is the order that does work.
1. Make sure people can find and trust you on Google
When someone needs a service, they search it. For local services, the Google map results often appear before anything else.
- Claim and verify your Google Business Profile. Fill in every field: primary category, services, service areas, opening hours, photos and a clear description.
- Keep your name, address and phone identical on your website, Google, Bing Places, Facebook and directories. Inconsistent details weaken trust with Google and AI assistants.
- Collect genuine reviews and reply to every one. Review volume, recency and responses all affect visibility and conversion.
Google confirms local ranking is based on relevance, distance and prominence. You control relevance and prominence.
2. Turn your website into an enquiry engine
Traffic is useless if the website does not convert it.
- Answer the question first. Put what you do, where, and for whom in the first lines of each page.
- One page per service. A single "Services" page cannot rank for ten different searches.
- Show proof. Real reviews, photos of real work and clear results.
- Make the next step obvious. A visible call button, a short quote form and WhatsApp on mobile.
- Track every enquiry so you know which source sends paying customers.
3. Get recommended by AI search, not just Google
Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews for recommendations. These tools draw on search results, business profiles and clearly structured pages.
To be cited:
- Allow AI crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot in your robots file.
- Use FAQ sections that answer real customer questions in plain language.
- Add structured data (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ) so machines understand your business.
- Keep business details consistent everywhere.
Ranking well in normal search is still the strongest signal for being mentioned by AI tools.
4. Respond in minutes, not hours
Speed wins jobs. The business that replies first usually gets the booking.
- Send an instant automatic reply to every form, call-back request and message.
- Offer a booking link so the lead can choose a time immediately.
- Follow up automatically if they go quiet, by email and SMS, over the next few days.
This single change often lifts booked jobs more than any new advertising.
5. Use paid ads to scale what already works
Once your profile, website and follow-up convert, ads become profitable.
- Google Ads capture people already searching for your service. Best for urgent and high-intent services.
- Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) create demand and work well for visual services, offers and local awareness.
- Start with a modest budget, track cost per enquiry and cost per booked job, then scale the campaigns that pay.
6. Measure the right numbers
Ignore likes and impressions. Track:
- Enquiries per week and where they came from
- Response time to new enquiries
- Enquiry to booking rate
- Cost per booked job
- Revenue per channel
What gets measured gets fixed.
A real example: from no online presence to £20,000+ a month
Two UK businesses under Signatures Asset Limited, a property group and its commercial cleaning brand, came to us with no digital presence at all. We built both websites from scratch, set up their search visibility, quote forms and enquiry handling. In the most recent month, each business generated over £20,000. You can see both on our Clients page.
